又稱英式瑪芬，源於18世紀英國及歐洲、用酵母發酵的扁圓麵包，常拿來做成三明治，夾上煎蛋、火腿、起司當早餐，就是人們熟悉的滿福堡。

又稱美式瑪芬，19世紀中期的美國，是用發粉當膨脹劑的快速麵包，通常烤成杯子狀，外觀像蛋糕。材料可以是玉米粉、全麥麵粉、燕麥 、起司、藍莓、巧克力等，糖的比例與 cupcake相比相對少。

杯子蛋糕是使用「蛋糕麵糊」（麵粉、雞蛋、奶油、糖）做成的「甜點」，通常頂部有奶油加糖粉打發成的美式糖霜（American frosting）裝飾，追求的是甜膩、細緻的口感，視覺上較為討喜。
